80% improvement with Tai Chi after stroke: Letter to Si Jie Lynne Byrne

by Margaret Waterton
(Moe Tai Chi)

Dear Si Jie Lynne,

I am writing to tell you how Tai Chi has helped me.

Four years ago I had a minor stroke which affected my left side. I experienced weakness, loss of balance and I was inclined to throw my left foot when walking. After three weeks of therapy at the local hospital there was some improvement, but I was very stressed about it all.

My doctor suggested I try “Tai Chi”. There was a class being held at the local Community Centre; “Tai Chi For Balance”.

I attended that class for two years; the teacher was Si Jie Lynne, a very understanding lady with a lot of patience.

I am happy to say my balance improved 80 percent, my strength 70 percent, I no longer throw my left foot, I occasionally still have trouble with my left arm but I can once again enjoy long walks. I am sure Tai Chi has
benefitted me in many ways. I feel really well and my family and friends tell me I look well and my doctors are really happy with me.

I am currently attending a Beijing 24 Form class; once again the teacher is Si Jie Lynne. I find learning different forms very interesting and enjoyable.

I encourage anyone thinking about joining a “Tai Chi” to take the first step and enjoy.

Thank you Si Jie Lynne Byrne.
