You can still benefit from tai chi even if you are not fit or healthy

Tai Chi (TC) can provide significant benefits in the health of all who practice it, regardless of age or current state of fitness.

The gentle movements of TC promote stress relief and relaxation. Sometimes described as 'meditation in motion', the art encourages steady, deep breathing and setting aside the mental burdens we all carry, at least for a time.

These same exercises can also offer relief from depression, providing a reduction in the pressure of modern stresses while still keeping the body active. Both are important factors in managing the debilitating effects of anxiety and depression.

A single TC routine, once learned, can take just a few minutes to complete, with no special equipment or clothing required. Even the busiest or tiredest among us can find time to perform a routine, within the comfort and privacy of our home.

Health practitioners of all disciplines now recommend TC as a healthy way to increase energy levels and feelings of well-being, without the side-effects of a medicated approach through phamaceutical medicines.

TC is adaptable, providing increased flexibility, joint mobility, strength and cardio-vascular fitness to all who study it, whether young or old, agile or arthritic. Each movement can be performed to your specific ability, yet without losing any of the benefits.

Many students come to TC because an injury or illness has prevented them from following some other exercise regime. Back pain, knee problems, arthritis, high blood pressure, or recovery from a heart condition are common reasons people seek out tai chi.

However, after a few months of study, many students report that while their original problem has eased, they find their health has also improved in other areas, such as, better posture, greater levels of concentration, less over-emotional, better balance and fewer muscular aches and pains.

For those students who take on the more internal aspects of TC, concentrating on building up and controlling their internal energy, or ‘chi’, they have been able to reduce the ill effects of chronic fatigue, fibroids, endometriosis and Parkinson’s disease.
