The day marked the culmination of years of experience, as Steve performedbefore the Masters. To achieve a 2nd Degree grading requires heaps of physical hard work, commitment, determination, emotional strength and most of all, a passion for the art. Si Hing Steve demonstrated his knowledge and creativity when he demonstrated the self defence applications. He and I performed the applications as a continuous ‘fighting set’. We had worked together for months, linking techniques together with transitions that lead to a believable sequence of movements, incorporating all the grading items. A successful grading result depends upon effective teamwork with application and push hands partners. As Si Hing Steve’s applications partner I learnt a great deal about teamwork. The Golden Lion’s values are summed up in the Eight Qualities. When I reflected on the Eight Qualities I realized I could summarize my experience in the following way: - Respect for each other is mutual, appreciate each other’s values, being caring and sharing.
- Loyalty represents confidence and commitment to each other.
- Tolerance of differing views and perspectives.
- Perseverance to work on a united front towards a mutual goal.
- Patience – understanding that some things cannot be rushed.
- Dignity – feeling valued and valuing your partners and their opinions.
- Humility – being open to other’s opinions leading to personal growth and self-development.
- Honour – recognising you partner’s knowledge and skill in your shared passion of Tai Ji Quan
Si Jie Su Rule was Si Hing Steve’s Push Hands partner. Together through correct technique, co-ordination, grace and skill they demonstrated the smooth transitions of dominance and control of Push Hands. If the opportunity comes, I highly recommend becoming a grading partner. It is a wonderful experience that will help you to grow as a person; physically, emotionally and spiritually. Congratulations Si Hing Steve on your marvellous performance and successful completion of your 2nd Degree Tai Ji Quan Black Belt. Si Jie Sandra Neal, Tai Ji Quan Instructor
