Before you begin your tai chi lessons or classes, it is important for you to know what to expect.

Below is exactly what our students receive in their TC classes at the Golden Lion Academy. This system has greatly benefited our students since we started teaching in Melbourne Australia in 1971.

Your class is a well-rounded, carefully designed and balanced mind-body programme so that you improve balance, flexibility, strength, stamina and energy levels.

Golden Lion’s programme is directed at promoting an inner peace that becomes a way of life. You fine-tune all the elements of your body - physical, emotional, intellectual, energetic and spiritual - into a balanced, healthy unit. This restores harmony and inner balance and soothes your nervous system.

You develop mind and body harmony. The soothing tranquil flow of this exercise programme is a perfect reintroduction to good physical and emotional health for males and females, from teenagers to seniors.

These benefits are obtained as your classes begin with specific warm up exercises and ends with cool down exercises that include stretching and Qi (Chi) cultivation breathing techniques.

Throughout your training, you’ll learn and practise various forms or routines, breathing and meditation techniques, relaxation techniques, posture correction, various strength, flexibility, balance and coordination exercises, weaponry such as the sword and fan, self defence applications and pressure points for healing and self defence.

And you also receive theory lessons, access to various seminars, training camps and outdoor sessions so that you can progress to a higher level. And once you've reached the required standard, we'll advise you when to progress to the next level.

For your safety and enjoyment, it is important for you to learn tai chi in clean and hygienic premises with natural light and fresh air. Our training centres at Berwick, Rowville and Murrumbeena are fully equipped, professional centres offering quality care and personal attention. Click here for the location of our training centres.

And please don't hesitate to Contact Us if you'd like to start your classes.

Below are some feedback from our tai chi classes

“PLASTIC CUPS and BAGS of RICE – centuries old secret techniques for Tai Chi? You might wonder what a bag of rice and a plastic cup could possibly have to do with learning TC but these items are vital to our development in Si Jie Chris and Si Hing Steve’s Saturday ‘advanced’ class! Alongside polishing our Beijing 24, we are learning so much more about each move and it’s application; the stories and traditions behind the form; ‘push hands’; Chi cultivation; and even the ‘salute’ takes on new significance. The class is a lively mix of discussion and physical practice, interspersed with Si Jie Chris’ wonderful stories!

You could say, it is not so much an ‘advanced’ class, as an ‘in depth’ class. You don’t need to be an ‘advanced’ student to get something out of it, but it does help your understanding of the applications if you have already completed Beijing 24. Learning all the other aspects of TC is giving us a deeper, more rounded understanding of the practice and history of this art form. As to the bag of rice and the plastic cup? Sorry, you’ll just have to join the class to find out what that is all about (and you might get to see Si Hing Steve’s amazing ability in this activity!).” Richard J Kubisz

“I have found the advanced class to be both great fun and very informative. It has enabled me to consolidate the skills already learnt in the Beijing 24 while at the same time gaining an understanding to the background of other aspects of TC and how they fit together as a whole. Also I love the way Si Jie Chris weaves the stories of the past Masters into the class.” David Osborne

“I am benefitting greatly from the advanced TC class. I come away every Saturday afternoon feeling highly energised. I was keen on taking on a 2nd class during the week and the new class being run by Si Jie Chris and Si Hing Steve is allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of TC and to build on the foundations of the last two and a half years from the Murrumbeena class. I am beginning to appreciate that TC is like an onion. The deeper you go, the more layers there are to explore underneath. I am particularly enjoying the applications of each move. I hope to continue my study of TC for many years.” Sanjeev Patwardhan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We are finding that the Advanced TC Classes Si Jie Chris is offering to be of great benefit to our understanding of TC. We have been made aware of things that have, of course, been told to us over the years, and which we do not always remember - posture, grounding, relaxation, breathing - but these classes, by working slowly through the movements and the rationale behind them, makes us much more conscious of the physical and mental aspects associated with Tai Chi.” Linda, Penny, Marjorie, Barbara : Drouin
