Tai Chi Certification: On becoming an Accredited Instructor
Below is an account of tai chi (TC or tai ji quan) instructor certification experiences of Rebecca Manning and her accreditation, how she had not truly understood the term to relax Eleven years ago I started my Tai Ji Quan journey. After seeing an advertisement for the Golden Lion Academy at a satellite school I thought I would give it a go. I arrived at class a little apprehensive but excited to start something new. I was made to feel very welcome by Si Hing Albert and Si Jie Denise and under the guise of “just come and have a look and see what you think,” I was easily encouraged to get on the floor myself. Well – as they say – the rest is history. I was hooked and have never looked back. There are many reasons why I became hooked. I realised once I started TC that I had not truly understood the term ‘relax’. After being shown how to relax and breathe the TC way I knew I had to find out more. Even in my day-to-day life my TC skills help me. When I feel stressed, taking the time to do some TC breathing always helps me calm down. I have gained strength and flexibility, which I would not have if I had not taken up TC. I have also gained many friendships and met so many lovely people. During my Tai Chi journey I have completed my fifth grade and at the end of 2008 I became an officially accredited TC instructor. The challenges don’t stop there – this year it is time to tackle level 1 Black Belt. I’d like to thank everyone who assisted me through this journey. Your encouragement and guidance is much appreciated. Rebecca Manning, TC accredited instructor
